Stop guessing how your child will do

The CAASPP is the test California uses to flag students who are behind grade level. By the time the official score comes back in summer, it's too late to do anything about it. Catch the gaps now.

Know exactly where they're weak

Don't waste study time on topics they already know. Our domain breakdown shows the specific Common Core areas where your child is below grade level.

Track real improvement

Take a test now, study the weak areas, take another test in 2 weeks. See the scale score climb. No guesswork.

30 minutes, not 30 hours

One sitting at the kitchen table is enough to surface the issues. No subscription to forget about, no curriculum to wade through.

See what a real practice question looks like

Below is an actual Grade 5 Mathematics question from our bank. Every test pulls from 120+ questions per grade/subject, written to the same Common Core standards CAASPP uses.

Sample · Grade 5 Math Number & Operations — Fractions 5.NF.B.4

A recipe calls for 2/3 cup of flour to make 4 cookies. How much flour is needed to make 10 cookies?

A. 1 1/3 cups
B. 1 2/3 cups Correct
C. 2 1/2 cups
D. 5/6 cup
Explanation: 2/3 cup makes 4 cookies, so 1 cookie needs 2/3 ÷ 4 = 1/6 cup. For 10 cookies: 10 × 1/6 = 10/6 = 1 4/6 = 1 2/3 cups.

How we built our questions

  • Aligned to California Common Core State Standards — every question maps to a specific CCSS code (e.g. 5.NF.B.4) the way the real CAASPP does.
  • Smarter Balanced (SBAC) blueprints — we follow the publicly released SBAC test blueprint that defines question style, depth-of-knowledge, and content distribution.
  • Reviewed by educators — every item is checked against the CCSS by people with classroom teaching experience before it ships.
  • Official cutoff scores — your child's scale score uses the same Level 1–4 thresholds the California Department of Education publishes.
  • Not affiliated with the California Department of Education or Smarter Balanced. CAASPPTest is an independent practice tool.

How it works

1

Pick your child's grade

Grades 3–8 and 11 are the years CAASPP officially tests. Pick the grade your child is in right now.

2

They take a 50-question test

Realistic CAASPP-style interface with a timer. About 30 minutes. They can pause and resume.

3

You get the parent report

Real scale score, performance level, weak-topic breakdown, and every wrong answer with a plain-English explanation you can walk through together.

4

Practice the weak areas, retest

Use the report to focus study time. Take another test 2 weeks later and watch the score improve.

Common questions from parents

Is this affiliated with CAASPP, Smarter Balanced, or the California Department of Education?
No. CAASPPTest is an independent practice tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by the California Department of Education, Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, or any official CAASPP administrator. We're an independent product built to help families prepare. We use the publicly published CCSS standards, SBAC blueprints, and CAASPP cutoff scores — all of which are free public information.
How accurate is the practice scale score?
Scale scores use the official CAASPP performance level cutoffs and Smarter Balanced (SBAC) scoring framework for each grade and subject. While no practice test perfectly predicts the real CAASPP, our score is a strong indicator of where your child stands relative to grade-level expectations.
Who writes the questions?
Questions are written by educators with classroom experience, mapped to specific California Common Core standards, and reviewed against the publicly available SBAC test blueprint. Every question shows its CCSS code so you can verify the alignment yourself.
Do I have to pay to try it?
No. Try the free 10-question diagnostic — no signup, no credit card. You'll see which Common Core areas your child is weakest in. If you want the full 50-question test with the official scale score and printable parent report, single tests start at $2.99 with a 7-day prorated refund.
Is it a subscription?
No. Every purchase is one-time. No auto-renew, no recurring charges. Tests stay in your account until you use them.
What if I have multiple kids?
The Family 15-Pack ($19.99) covers up to 3 children with separate progress tracking for each. You can switch between kids on the same account — each has their own grade, score history, and weak-topic profile.
What's the difference between CAASPP and GATE?
CAASPP measures whether your child has mastered the grade-level California Common Core standards (Math & ELA). It's the test the state uses to flag students who are behind. GATE (Gifted & Talented Education) screening — typically CogAT or OLSAT — measures reasoning ability across three batteries: Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal. It decides who gets into the gifted program. They test different things, so most parents preparing seriously do both.
Do test credits work for both CAASPP and GATE?
Yes. Whether you bought a single test, 5-pack, or Family 15-Pack, every credit can be used for either a CAASPP practice test or a GATE practice test. Pick the subject on the test selection page. GATE is available for Grades 3–5 only.
